Cable contracts (with and without installation); Office Automation/Systems and Peripherals contracts; Comprehensive Service Agreements (installation); Microcomputer contracts; Printer contracts; Networking contracts; Electronic Key Systems and Telephone Equipment contracts; Interactive Voice Response Systems contracts.

There are also separate contracts for the purchase only (no installation) of copper and fiber optic cable by the spool or cut length.

Cable is available from four types of contracts:

Cable contractors (Cable and Fiber Optics - Purchase Only)

Cable contractors (Signal Wiring and Cabling, Fiber Optic Cabling - Purchase, Installation and Maintenance)

Telephone system providers (Electronic Key Systems, Digital Centrex equipment, etc.), and

Data equipment providers (e.g. Office Automation/Systems and Peripherals, Comprehensive Service Agreements (installation), Networking, Interactive Voice Response, etc.)

Cable is a costly component of any voice or data installation and often the cable installation is subcontracted. Although it could result in additional administrative intervention by the Authorized User, it is usually advisable to solicit bids from more than one contractor to get the best quote for the cable installation.

Telephone system vendors are usually responsible for reusing existing voice cable and installing new where needed. However, if the Authorized User is installing a telephone system at a location where there is no existing cable or where existing cable ducts are to be gutted, the costs quoted by a cable vendor can potentially save the agency a substantial amount. Again, in this situation, we recommend that you get competitive quotes from the Cable contractors and your telephone system provider. Other than a data cable or two (usually Category 5), telephone system providers should not install data cable without the added competition from your data equipment provider and/or the Cable contractors.

Data equipment providers are eligible to install cable relevant to the data equipment purchase. However, these contracts are not intended to be used for full building cabling projects, voice or telephone installations, and copper or fiber optic riser servicing multiple applications. Large data equipment cable installations should be competitively procured by also requesting quotes from the Cable contractors who specialize in providing these services.

The Cable contractors received awards by competitively establishing not to exceed rates and enabling a best and final bid based on each individual project. In most instances this will result in the best rates available.

By requesting all eligible contractors to participate in a competitive environment, the Authorized User will ensure that the cost of installation will be in the best interest of the State.
