2017 GreenNY Forum

The 2017 GreenNY Forum brought together sustainability coordinators and their staff from multiple state agencies and authorities to discuss opportunities to continue to make New York State a leader in sustainable government operations in the areas of green leasing, electric vehicle adoption, solar installations, green employee commuting, and more. The day allowed coordinators to network across agencies and disciplines to exchange best practices and learn skills that will help them effectively implement projects. A main focus of the event was on sustainability planning and how agencies can strengthen and implement their plans.

35% decrease in paper use by agencies from FY 2011-12 to 15-16, saving the State $19.6 million


Reducing Waste

78% recycling rate, due to increased recycling of construction and demolition debris by the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) and Department of Transportation

Renewable Energy

67 million kWh of energy generated by State agencies through on-site renewable energy installations, enough to power 6,200 homes for one year

Interagency Committee on Sustainability and Green Procurement

The GreenNY Interagency Committee is charged with identifying an annual list of categories and products for which specifications can be developed and issued for greener procurements, the establishment of goals for reductions in the amount of solid waste, and with the development and performance of training relative to sustainability efforts.
