The proposed Adirondacks Welcome Center is located at the existing Glens Falls Rest Area on I-87 Northbound between Exit 17 and 18. Physical address of the existing Glens Falls Rest Area is 386 Big Boom Road, Queensbury, NY 12804.
This project consists of constructing a new welcome center building with restrooms, Wi-Fi coverage, interactive tourist kiosks, vending machines, ATM, seating area, an office for the State Police, and service supporting areas. New amenities incorporated to site work include an outdoor play area and a pet comfort area. A boat inspection and decontamination station will be constructed in the rest area to help control the spread of aquatic invasive species in New York waters. Site work of this project also includes demolition of the existing building, resurface on the exit and entrance ramps, access roads, and parking lots, new bus parking spaces, existing acceleration lane full-depth extension to the north of the rest area, drainage system rehabilitation, site lighting upgrade, new signs along Northway for truck inspection station and boat wash station, new sidewalks and landscaping.
